The performance and media artists Karel Dudesek, Benjamin Heidersberger, Mike Hentz and Salvatore Vanasco formed the core of the avant-garde artist collective Van Gogh TV. Dudesek and Hentz were previously the founders of the performance group Minus Delta t.
Van Gogh TV developed and implemented concepts for interactive media applications, concentrating primarily on the area of interactive television. The aim was to further develop the originally passive medium into a direct interaction between the recipients*. Minus Delta t and Van Gogh TV were represented several times during the 1980s and 1990s with projects at Ars Electronica in Linz and Documenta in Kassel.
Piazza Virtuale was a special project at documenta IX in 1992.
